Salgado and Capa

Chinstrap Penguins, South Sandwich Islands, 2009

“Sebastião Salgado: Chinstrap Penguins, South Sandwich Islands (2009): Available for Sale.” Artsy, https://www.artsy.net/artwork/sebastiao-salgado-chinstrap-penguins-south-sandwich-islands-1.

This photograph by Saldago really shows his commitment to get great footage for his documentary photography series. This photo captures how intense and demanding this project probably was for him. Looking through all of his work, there seems to be a theme on humanity and nature which he goes beyond limits to document. In order to get this shot, and the others in his series, he had to travel the globe to risky places like this one: the outcome is quite amazing. This shot in particular must have been difficult to shoot because of the waves crashing and the rocky ground.

“Robert Capa.” Magnum Photos Photographer Portfolio, https://pro.magnumphotos.com/C.aspx?VP3=CMS3&VF=MAGO31_10_VForm&ERID=24KL535353.

This photo by Robert Capa, as well as many others in his series, shows the risks he took to photograph men literally during battle to take truly fascinating war photographs. Seeing his dedication to get a good shot for the importance of documenting history is inspiring. He goes as far as to put his own life in danger to capture the bravery of these soldiers.

  1. Capa eventually lost his life as a war photography. Salgado continues his work today. He recently completed a project he titled “Genesis” in which the penguin image appears.
