Aaron Siskind’s image titled Vermont 98 was taken in 1987 in Vermont using gelatin silver print. This photograph is an abstract image using high contrast of black and white. It contains a lot of texture that is more concentrated in certain areas and spread out in other areas. There appears to be tiny rigid pieces that come together and make shapes of their own. There is a lot of focus on the small details. There is a wide range of light with very dark areas, bright whites, and grays in between. The dark shapes are the negative space which form horizontal and vertical lines. The brighter shapes are more abstract. There are some floating white pieces in the negative area that distracts your eye from the larger shapes. The image is cropped in way that cuts off the shapes and leads you to wonder what exists outside of the cropped image.
