This is the article I found for beginners in photography:
“New York 1”
Aaron Siskind’s “New York 1” is a black and white abstract image taken in 1988. The piece shows a deeply deteriorating wall. Aaron uses the curvature of the crumbling wall to make the viewer wonder what is really going on in this picture. Is it real wood rotting? Or is it merely old paper collapsing and barely hanging on by a few staples. The crinkling of the paper hints that this wall has been ripped off by the way the edges of each individual section appears. The photo is cropped in such a way that it is almost impossible for the viewer to determine what is truly going on, but because of the dark sturdy wooden fence behind the lighter torn wall, we can assume that this is most likely paper. The contrast between the straight vertical lines from behind with the complex and curvy lines of the paper is quite eye catching and interesting to look at. Considering this piece was taken in New York, as the title suggests, it creates personal images in the audiences head of how this image came to be and where it might be located in such a big and bustling city.

It is almost as if it is wood veneer or wood wallpaper on top of wood panels. Make sure you link to the media file.
